Laos holds solemn meeting to mark 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory

A solemn State-level ceremony was held on May 7 at the Lao National Convention Center, in Vientiane, Laos, to mark the 70th anniversary of the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu (May 7, 2024).

In her speech, Lao Vice State Chairwoman Pany Yathotou said that the Dien Bien Phu victory that “resounded across the five continents and shook the globe” brought with it great historical significance for heroic Vietnamese people, demonstrating the patriotism, indomitable will and resilience of the Vietnamese people. The victory showed the wisdom of the Vietnamese Party, headed by President Ho Chi Minh, and the correct combat motto of General Vo Nguyen Giap; and is the victory of the faithful and fighting solidarity of the armies and peoples of the three countries of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

She emphasized that the Dien Bien Phu victory had a direct impact on the Lao revolution, creating favorable conditions for the resistance of the Lao people on the battlefield.

“Looking back over the past 70 years, we can see the heroism of the Vietnamese army and people as well as the instilled cooperative relationship between the two armies and people of Laos and Vietnam in the struggle against French colonialism and American imperialism. Under the leadership of the Indochina Communist Party and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the two countries' soldiers and people worked side by side, fighting and sacrificing to gain independence.

This special relationship was founded by President Ho Chi Minh, Kaysone Phomvihane and Souphanouvong, and has been promoted by generations of leaders, revolutionary soldiers and the people of the two countries.

At the ceremony, many unique music and dance performances praising President Ho Chi Minh and the solidarity of the Laos - Vietnam fighting alliance; traditional dances and musical instruments have created an atmosphere of closeness and brotherly love between Vietnam and Laos./.
