Assessing the situation and prospects of the world economy, OECD experts said that the world economy is recovering quickly from negative growth in 2020, and is expected to grow at 5.7% in 2021 and 4.5% in 2022 thanks to the impetus from vaccination campaigns and growth support packages.

However, the growth recovery process took place unevenly among groups of countries when major economies have relatively positive recoveries while many emerging economies are still vulnerable to the complicated developments of the pandemic.

Accordingly, countries need to accelerate the rate of vaccination in association with strengthening public health capacity to ensure good control of the pandemic. Regarding economic measures, countries need to keep a close eye on world economic developments, including increasing inflationary pressure and debt due to the rapid economic recovery and the effects of monetary-fiscal easing measures.

The OECD highly appreciates the measures taken by the Government of Vietnam to safely and flexibly adapt to the pandemic, restore and develop socio-economic activities; share international experiences on related measures and give some recommendations to Vietnam on how to safely adapt to the pandemic, overcome supply chain problems and take advantage of the trend of movement of investment, creating a favorable environment for the recovery of businesses, and improving capacity to cope with the COVID-19 epidemic.

The two sides highly appreciated the positive development of cooperation activities between Vietnam and the OECD in recent years, including dialogues, policy exchanges and research.

Mr. Andreas Schaal, Director of Global Relations, agreed with Deputy Minister Vu Quang Minh's opinion on promoting contact activities and exchange of delegations at all levels between Vietnam and the OECD, saying that the OECD is willing to cooperate with Vietnamese agencies to carry out research activities and policy dialogues on economy – development, and expressing his hope that Vietnam will continue to promote its active role in cooperation programs between the OECD and Southeast Asian countries in the coming time./.
