Promoting deeper, more substantive and effective Vietnam-Malaysia cooperation

On behalf of the State and people of Vietnam, Vice Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh expressed sincere gratitude to the Malaysian Government for sending the Deputy Prime Minister to lead the Malaysian delegation at the state funeral of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, emphasizing that this gesture reflects the affection and respect of the Malaysian Government and people towards Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the Vietnam-Malaysia Strategic Partnership.

The Vice Chairman noted with pleasure that the relations between the two countries have developed well across various fields in recent times. Vietnam and Malaysia have undergone over 50 years of building and developing relations, with a significant milestone being the signing of the Joint Declaration on the Strategic Partnership Framework on August 7, 2015. Notably, Vietnam is Malaysia's only strategic partner in ASEAN, while Malaysia is Vietnam's second-largest trading partner in ASEAN and the 11th largest globally. The two countries closely coordinate at regional and international forums such as ASEAN, the United Nations and APEC. The relationship between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Malaysian Parliament continues to be strengthened both bilaterally and multilaterally, contributing to the promotion of relations between the two countries.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh affirmed that Vietnam always values and wishes to promote the Strategic Partnership with Malaysia in a deeper, more substantive and effective manner across all fields.

To further deepen the Vietnam-Malaysia Strategic Partnership, Vice Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh proposed that Malaysia prioritize promoting the implementation of agreed-upon contents; soon complete negotiations and sign other important agreements and treaties on defense, security, education; aim to achieve a bilateral trade turnover of USD18 billion soon; strive to sign a cooperation agreement in the Halal sector soon; and strengthen mutual understanding and closeness between the people of the two countries.

Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof expressed his deepest condolences to the Party, State and people of Vietnam on the passing of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister welcomed Vice Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh's visit to Malaysia and agreed with the Vice Chairman's assessments of bilateral relations, sharing proposals for enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

Addressing specific areas of cooperation, the Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister noted the significant potential for collaboration in the Halal food sector, affirming that Malaysia's Halal Food Promotion Agency is ready to share experiences and send experts to support Vietnam in this field.

The Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister also noted that with Vietnam's significant potential for green energy development, the two countries can enhance cooperation in this area and within the ASEAN framework.

Currently, Vietnam has made a strong commitment to the international community to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Vietnam has also issued and is implementing a power development plan which focuses on developing clean energy sources and reducing environmental pollution.

Appreciating the ideas and proposals of the Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister on enhancing clean energy cooperation within ASEAN, Vice Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh also stated that more developed countries in the region should support others in this field for a harmonious, united and sustainably developing ASEAN./.
