On September 17, in Phi Hai commune, Quang Hoa district, Cao Bang province, within the framework of the project aimed at enhancing resilience to natural disasters and climate change for children, funded by the Government of Japan through the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the sponsor handed over water storage tanks to seven impoverished districts in Cao Bang province.

Specifically, the sponsor provided 850 plastic water tanks to the provinces of Lang Son and Cao Bang, worth approximately VND1.8 billion. Of these, 456 tanks were allocated to Cao Bang to support affected areas, poor communes, and communities with high ethnic minority populations. The focus was on assisting households lacking clean water, especially those with children and female-headed households, ethnic minorities, and distributing tanks to schools and health stations.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, Deputy Director of the Department of Dike Management and Disaster Prevention, the northern mountainous provinces have been severely affected by the destruction caused by Typhoon Yagi. To promptly assist residents in affected areas, the Department of Dike Management and Disaster Prevention, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, collaborated with UNICEF to help people in impacted regions overcome difficulties.
Mr. Maharajan Muthu, a representative from UNICEF Vietnam, stated that under the partnership between UNICEF and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, UNICEF has contributed significantly to sustainable rural development and disaster prevention. Notable efforts include providing water tanks for residents in the Mekong Delta affected by drought and saltwater intrusion in 2019-2020, as well as supplying water filtration systems to the provinces of Ca Mau, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu to combat drought and saltwater intrusion in 2023. In 2024, UNICEF continues to support disaster-affected areas by purchasing and distributing plastic water storage tanks.
Cao Bang is one of the localities heavily impacted by Typhoon No. 3. As of September 16, the province reported approximately 55 deaths, two missing persons, and numerous landslides that disrupted transportation. UNICEF's timely assistance will help residents store drinking water in the event of future natural disasters./.
