This was the main topic during a working session between Vietnamese Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi and Cuban Minister of Agriculture Ydael Jesús Pérez Brito on December 9.
Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi emphasized that, as the lead agency for Vietnam’s delegation in the Vietnam-Cuba Intergovernmental Committee, the Ministry of Construction has consistently worked to promote economic, trade and investment collaboration between the two nations. He highlighted that agriculture remains a priority area in this partnership.
Over the years, Vietnam has supported Cuba in implementing eight projects focused on rice production, grain crop development and aquaculture farming. These cooperative efforts have achieved significant results, helping Cuba increase food production, improve technical skills and enhance management capacities in rice production and agriculture.
Vietnam is presently assisting Cuba with three ongoing projects, including the Vietnam-Cuba Rice Production Development Project (2019–2025), the Vietnam-Cuba Aquaculture Farming Cooperation Project (2023–2025) and the Vietnam-Cuba Corn Production Cooperation Project (2023–2025).
Additionally, the Vietnamese government has tasked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with developing and seeking approval for a proposal to strengthen rice production in Cuba during the 2025–2027 period. This initiative aims to bolster food security in Cuba through practical and efficient agricultural collaboration.
The Ministry of Construction is also aiding Thai Binh Company in preparing a feasibility study for a project on rice production and processing. This project includes soybean oil production, combined with soybean and corn cultivation, as well as poultry and livestock farming in Cuba./.
