He made the statement during his talks with Secretary of State of the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Domingos Vieira Lopes, in Hanoi on November 15, on the occasion of the guest’s official visit to Vietnam on November 14-19.
Secretary of State Domingos Vieira Lopes said he was delighted to visit Vietnam for the first time, affirming the Angolan Government's desire to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, especially making economic, trade and investment cooperation commensurate with the good political relations between the two countries.
He added that this official visit to Vietnam was attended by trade promotion agencies and 15 Angolan businesses in many fields to seek new cooperation opportunities with Vietnamese partners. “Angola's push to diversify the economy will bring many opportunities for Vietnamese businesses, and Vietnamese businesses are expected to take advantage of this opportunity,” he said.
The two sides highly appreciated the active coordination and mutual support at international forums over the past time. Deputy Minister Pham Quang Hieu thanked Angola for supporting Vietnam to join the United Nations Human Rights Council for the term of 2023 - 2025, and hoped that the two countries would continue to cooperate well at multilateral forums; and suggested Angola support Vietnam’s candidacy for a seat at the World Heritage Committee (WHC) in 2023-2027.
The two sides informed each other about the socio-economic situation of each country, and discussed measures and directions to further promote cooperation in the fields of politics - diplomacy, economy, trade and health - education.
They agreed that there remained huge potential for cooperation between the two countries; therefore, it is necessary to promote the exchange of delegations, especially high-level delegations; step up trade exchange, strive to increase bilateral trade turnover to over USD100 million in the coming years; study cooperation mechanisms as well as perfect the legal framework to facilitate bilateral cooperation; and agreed to soon organize the 7th meeting of the Vietnam - Angola Intergovernmental Committee in Luanda.
After the talks, Deputy Minister Hieu and Secretary of State of the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Domingos Vieira Lopes attended the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition on the culture, land and people of Angola, which is part of activities celebrating the 47th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties (November 12, 1975)./.
