On October 17, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son welcomed to Hanoi Australian Senator Tim Ayres, Assistant Minister for Trade and Assistant Minister for Manufacturing, in Vietnam to attend the OECD Southeast Asia Ministerial Forum 2022.
At the meeting, Minister Bui Thanh Son welcomed and expressed his pleasure to co-chair the forum with Minister Tim Ayres; and highly appreciated the interest, important contributions and close coordination of the Australian side in organizing the Forum. He suggested the two sides continue to effectively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening cooperation between Vietnam and the OECD, focusing on areas of mutual concern and practical contributions to Vietnam's socio-economic development such as digital transformation, green growth, institutional improvement and human resource quality improvement.
On this occasion, Minister Bui Thanh Son thanked Australia for supporting and creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese officials to work at the OECD Secretariat, contributing to training and improving professional qualifications and experience for the Vietnamese diplomatic staff.
Australian Senator Tim Ayres highly appreciated Vietnam's active contribution to SEARP as Co-Chair, especially in hosting the OECD's series of events in Vietnam, including the minister level forum; and affirmed that he will continue to coordinate with Vietnam to promote OECD cooperation with Southeast Asian countries and implement the OECD-ASEAN Action Plan.
Talking about bilateral cooperation, the two Ministers agreed to increase the exchange of high-level delegations, maintain the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms, strengthen trade - economic - investment cooperation, and at the same time expand cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, high-tech agriculture, telecommunications, infrastructure development and tripartite cooperation.
The two sides also discussed Vietnam, Australia with ASEAN and South Pacific countries, as well as non-traditional security issues, including climate change and the implementation of next-generation FTAs, including the CPTPP.
On this occasion, Minister Tim Ayres congratulated Vietnam on being elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the term 2023-2025; agreed to support Vietnam in training human resources for international integration, not only at the central level but also at the local level, thereby contributing to helping Vietnam realize its goal of becoming a successful developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030./.
