With its contributions, Vietnam has been trusted to be elected to many important positions and agencies of the UN such as the UN Human Rights Council, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and especially, twice elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, for the period 2008-2009 and 2020-2021.

According to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang, at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, Vietnam will send a strong message to international friends with the image of a dynamic and innovative country, with aspiration for development, with peace-loving, active and responsible contributions to the common work of the UN and the international community.

In addition, this is also an opportunity for Vietnam to appreciate the high trust and confidence of member countries in Vietnam as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term, affirming Vietnam's commitments and efforts to achieve more positive results at the UN, the UN Security Council and UN mechanisms and organizations in the coming time, including the election to the UN Human Rights Council for the term 2023-2025.

In particular, Vietnam will clearly show its desire to work with other countries to solve current urgent problems, especially the prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his working trip in New York, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the opening ceremony of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly; and attended the COVID-19 Global Summit Videoconference hosted by US President Joe Biden and US Vice President Kamala Harris.

It is expected that the Vietnamese President will have many bilateral meetings with heads of state on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.

In particular, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc will spend a lot of time meeting and having dialogues with leaders of many large US corporations and enterprises to continue calling for and promoting investment activities of US businesses into Vietnam./.
