According to leader of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, during the implementation of the cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance and the UK Ministry of Home Affairs on October 2, 2019, over the past time, the General Department of Vietnam Customs and the UK Border Agency have effectively implemented cooperation activities, enhanced capacity building support and technical assistance, thereby contributing to modernization of the customs operations in Vietnam.

Despite the complex development of COVID-19, cooperation activities have been held, including the UK Border Agency’s support for human resource training and development. The two sides have successfully coordinated 4 training courses on key identification, and 4 training courses on container screening image analysis with the participation of about 120 Vietnamese customs officers.

In 2020, the UK Border Agency also awarded to Vietnam Customs a number of costumes, protective shoes, binoculars and flashlights, to ensure safety for boatmen in sea control activities. These devices are very useful for customs inspection and control at border gates, ports and airports, especially in detecting precursors, narcotics, and toxic substances.

The representative of the General Department of Vietnam Customs said that the handheld substance detection devices will be used to inspect goods at airway and seaport customs./.
