Specifically, on September 6, Acting Health Minister Dao Hong Lan had a meeting and worked with a delegation led by Mr. Eric Dziuban, National Director of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Vietnam.

At the meeting, on behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Health, Acting Minister Dao Hong Lan affirmed that the medical cooperation between Vietnam and the US has developed very well over the past 25 years, in which, cooperation with the US CDC is extremely important.

The cooperation between the two sides focuses on many important health fields, including infectious disease prevention, HIV/AIDS prevention, nosocomial infection control, antibiotic resistance prevention, and capacity building for prevention testing. The US CDC has also been supporting the Global Health Security Program, Field Epidemiology Training Program, and supporting the establishment and operation of the Public Health Event Response Center.

"Through aid projects and technical assistance activities, the US CDC has contributed to enhancing the effectiveness of disease prevention and surveillance, especially COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS prevention and control, TB prevention, the fight against antibiotic resistance, and global health security of Vietnam," Acting Minister Dao Hong Lan said.

According to Acting Minister Dao Hong Lan, the evolution of dangerous diseases of a global nature is increasing, so between the US Department of Health and CDC, it is necessary to expand cooperation to cope with the next challenges.

Eric Dziuban, US CDC Country Director, said that the public health landscape is constantly changing and parties need to continue working to ensure Vietnam is prepared with the best possible foundation. The US CDC is committed to further strengthening the health cooperation between the US and Vietnam and is committed to realizing the common goal of the two sides to further strengthen the health systems in the country.

Appreciating Vietnam’s proposals for continued cooperation between the two sides, Mr. Eric Dziuban said that the US CDC is providing ongoing technical support as Vietnam prepares guidelines for surveillance, diagnostics and treatment of monkeypox as a globally emerging disease. Since early June 2022, when monkeypox warnings began to spread globally and continue to be a global public health emergency, CDC has worked with the Department of Health to ensure Vietnam's readiness to deal with this epidemic.

The US CDC is also providing technical assistance in the Vietnam National CDC development plans, to further strengthen Vietnam's health system capacity and streamline the health system response in emergency and non-emergency situations./.
