According to the hospital representative, Bentiu Central Prison is the largest prison in Unity State, currently managing over 120 inmates. Due to the lack of facilities in terms of food, medicine and medical care, it is difficult for the Unity government to take care of the South Sudanese prisoners.

In the general context, this country is still facing many difficulties, while the biggest flood in 60 years recently caused heavy damage. The sick prisoners did not have enough medicine and food.

Therefore, the hospital’s Board of Directors chose this place as the starting point for the charity program in 2022, in order to both express the friendliness and compassion of the Vietnamese people, and spread the traditional cultural values of the people and country of Vietnam to the local people.

In addition to giving food and essential supplies such as books, pens, rice, milk, footballs and volleyballs, the hospital's doctors and nurses also organized medical examinations and treatment, and donated medicine and medical equipment to prison staff and inmates.

Lieutenant Colonel Trinh My Hoa, Director of the hospital, said that the hospital hoped to accompany units in the UNMISS mission to join hands and contribute to improving living conditions at Bentiu Central Prison, not wanting anyone to be left behind, even if they are prisoners.

Mr. Khalid Mohammed Mohammed Sanad Leila, Head of the Regulatory Advisory Group at the Bentiu Field Office, UNMISS, who is also the main coordinator of this activity, appreciatively said that it was great that all the patients received health check-ups, medicine, food and necessities.

Major General Yuanis Yarch, director of Bentiu Central Prison, said that this is a very good spiritual medicine for them.

In 10 months of operation in Bentiu area, the hospital has organized many charity activities, including donating medicine and medical equipment to Bentiu State Hospital; donating HIV/AIDS rapid tests, screening, and counseling and educating on HIV/AIDS prevention. In January 2022, the hospital successfully completed the task of supporting emergency surgery, in a 10-day campaign./.
