The terraced fields in Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang province will be recognized as a national heritage site on September 16. This time of year, the terraced rice fields begin to be lissome yellow, overflowing with ripened rice throughout Hoang Su Phi.
Terraced fields are a relatively common type of farming, appearing in many places, especially Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and a number of southern provinces of China.
Although there is so far no official document confirming the exact time when cultivation on terraced fields began or who created the form of cultivation, researchers say that terraced field cultivation appeared in Hoang Su Phi several hundred years ago.
For a long time, the terraced fields in mountain villages of Phung, Ban Luoc, San Sa Ho, Ho Thau, Nam Ty and Thong Nguyen have been a cultural and beautiful feature, and the pride of Hoang Su Phi.
