Old bicycles – part of Hanoi’s history, now a popular hobby

Riding bicycles is a favorite hobby of Hanoians. According to those who love old bicycles, this hobby makes them feel relaxed and peaceful.

Recently, Thanh Nien road has become the place to gather for people collecting,
displaying, and riding these old antiques of Hanoi

Many collecting members of Hanoi’s bicycle clubs share the same enthusiasm
and zeal when it comes to these relics of the past

Nearly all these old bicycles are well known and famous French brands like
Peugeot, Marila, Mercier, Follis, Joang Fonix, Sterling, Aviac…

An original Aviac was bought by Mr. Tran Nhu To, 65, in 2008. It is the only one
in Vietnam. He said: “It would bring millions if it were sold today

The bicycles used by the Vietnamese people must be registered in order to
secure registration papers, a number, and other legal documents

This bicycle is one of those entirely imported from France with modern styles
and innovation, such as a light and clock meter

Old Vietnamese bicycles are always highly appreciated because of their owners,
 who mostly are elderly

Mr. Son, 42, in Ta Thanh Oai, is famous for his collection of old bicycles said:
 “After 10 years of rebuilding and collecting old bicycles, I have now completely rebuilt
two bicycles. The leftover parts are often sold or traded with people who have
the same passion of preserving old bicycles "

Market prices of bicycles are determined by look, style, quantity still in existence,
and popularity of the hobby

The old bicycles’ image is associated with the capital city’s thousand-year history
