Traditional paper making art demonstrated

On October 29, during the fair on handicrafts in Hanoi, Mong Pa Co ethnic minority people in Mai Chau district and Muong ethnic minority people in Luong Son district of the northern province of Hoa Binh demonstrated their art of manual paper making.

 

 Handmade paper demonstration took place at the Vietnam Exhibition and Fair Centre.

 The tree belonging to the bamboo family is the main material to make paper.

 After the bark of the tree is removed, the tree is smashed and boiled.

 

 After that, the material is broken up in water.

 

 Waste matter is removed.

 Muong ethnic minority people use bamboo frames to skim starch.

 

 Muong ethnic minority people dry the material.

 

 Mong ethnic minority make a frame to place the material.

 Water is spread on the frame before placing the material onto it.

 The pulp is dried within 4 hours.

 Trying to make paper like Muong people.

 

 Paper products by Mong people.

 Foreigners participate in paper making in an area of 108 square metres.

 

 Muong people dye the paper with another kind of tree.

 The Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute organized this contest.
