Dong Cuu Village makes ritual dress of sorceress

Visiting Dong Cuu Village in Dung Tien commune, Thuong Tin district, Hanoi, people are very interested in the colourful embroidered products created for festivals. The villagers have revived the old embroidery designs for traditional festive costumes which seemed to have been lost.
The products of Dong Cuu village are sold nationwide. Although similar machine – made items are produced in many other villages, Dong Cuu's handmade embroidery is its strength.
The way the patterns are hand embroidered on the costumes is a secret of this village. Many patterns require three months to be completed. The price of an average quality costume is about VND 1 million, while the finest costumes can be up to VND 5 million.
The embroidery craft has raised incomes in Dong Cuu Village. The village aims to develop the craft to stabilise the economy and restore and preserve the old embroidery designs.
