“I tell this story” exhibition, held by the Hanoimoi (New Hanoi) Newspaper and former journalist Nguyen Ngoc Tien from the Investigative Report Department, opened at the Exhibition Hall, 29 Hang Bai, Hanoi on December 3.
The exhibition is opened on the occasion of the 68th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (Dec 22) and 40th anniversary of the “Dien Bien Phu in the air” victory. The opening ceremony attracted crowds of the elderly, witness to the war itself, as well as others interested in the message.
The 52 artefacts on display in the exhibition aim to recall the resounding victory of the army and people in carrying out a war of resistance against the aggressor in the 20th century.
They also commemorate the 12 days and nights of late December 1972, when Hanoi’s army and people resiliently defeated the US B-52 warplanes in the resounding ‘Dien Bien Phu in the air" victory. Four decades later, the historic event is still not forgotten. The brave sacrifice of Vietnam’s air force soldiers and the endurance of Hanoi’s residents are fresh in the memory of people today.
These objects have been collected by journalist Nguyen Ngoc Tien for many years. The objects are made from war waste and military equipment manipulated into everyday goods. There are many items made of the shells of French tanks which were set on fire at Dien Bien Phu in 1954, but most were made in the anti-American resistance war.
“I tell this story” is the first exhibition of personal effects manipulated from weapons of the enemy to serve daily needs, such as a table, desk, farmer’s pipe, ashtray, oil lamp, slipper, flower vase, and more.
