Wednesday, 20/03/2013 22:30 (GMT+7)
Cam Kim, a beautiful island in Hoi An Harbour can be visited by taking a ferry from the pier just to the east of the market along Bach Dang street. Departures are frequent, as a lot of people live on the island and this is their only way to and from Hoi An town.
Bach Dang dock (Bach Dang street, Hoi An old city) next to Hoai River is now a place for parking tourist boats |
... on the other bank is the ferry boats to serve the people. Unlike the old days, it is now an engine-driven ferry boat. |
Passengers are those going to school, work or trading on both sides: the centre of Hoi An and Cam Kim Island commune. The boats carry people, goods, and personal vehicles |
Many tourists prefer to go on their own, instead of taking scheduled tours on the waterway. They can bring their bikes along on the ferry boats |
There is only a single route and the fare is quite cheap, even taking a motorbike. Tickets are free for school students. |
Passengers wait for a boat at the beverage shops right on the river. The wait is not long, as each trip is only 10-15 minutes |
A boat from Cam Kim pulls up to Bach Dang dock. Early in the morning, the boats going from Cam Kim to Hoi An are always crowded because many people need to go to the city centre. |

After only about 10 minutes crossing a waterway of 1.7 km, the boat arrives at Cam Kim dock. |
The dock is small, so that when boats dock at the same time, the passengers often have to walk across the other vessel. |
On the Cam Kim dock, there is only a coffee shop for waiting and resting. |
