Hanoi celebrates Earth Hour 2013

Along with activities taking place in 63 provinces/cities across the country, on the evening of March 23 at the August Revolution Square, thousands of people of the capital came together in response to Earth Hour 2013 in order to call for energy conservation and efforts against climate change.
Earth Hour is an event which the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) launched in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, to raise community awareness about climate change. The Earth Hour campaign has become a large-scale action around the world, now marked in many countries and territories on all continents.

According to the Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN), in 1 hour of turning off the lights in response to the Earth Hour 2013 campaign, from 20.30 on March 23 evening, the power system showed a reduced usage by some 401,000 kWh, equivalent to VND576 million. |
