(CPV) – On March 28, a hailstorm caused serious damage in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai, injuring dozens of people and damaging tens of thousands of houses in Muong Khuong, Bac Ha and Si Ma Cai districts.
Muong Khuong district had 31 people injured, among them 23 people were admitted to hospital. 7,000 houses were damaged.
In Bac Ha and Si Ma Cai districts, the hailstones hit 12 of the total 21 communes in Bac Ha, and 9 of the total 13 communes in Si Ma Cai. Besides, nearly 5,000 households and many schools and health clinics were affected.
The hailstorm hit Lao Cai at dawn on the day, bringing hailstones with diameters of 5-10cm.
Lao Cai province authorities are taking drastic measures to help local residents deal with the aftermath of the storm.
