Pride of Vietnam’s national flag

The national flag first appeared in the Southern Uprising in 1940, after seizing the government, on September 2, 1945, the yellow star red flag was used officially at the independence declaration ceremony at Ba Dinh Square, in the people’s joyfulness and emotion.
It was recognized as the national flag of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam by the decree of President of the Provisional Government Ho Chi Minh on September 5, 1945, and reaffirmed by the first National Assembly in 1946.

Whether sunny or rainy, before 6am, soldiers of Mission 275 under the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Protection High Command perform flag hoisting rituals at Ba Dinh Square. The first flag saluting ceremony was held on May 19, 2001, on the occasion of the 111th birthday of Uncle Ho. |

The squad of honour guards include 34 members, representing for the original 34 soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army. |

At 5:45 am the squad march to the grand music of "Tien buoc duoi quan ky" (marching under the military flag). |

The national flag has an area of 24 square meters and it is slowly hoisted to the magnanimous tune of the national anthem. |

After the saluting ceremony, the honour guard squad march in front of the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and end the ceremony. At 9 pm, the flag lowering ceremony with similar rituals is performed. |
