Colourful art of making folk masks preserved in Hang Than

(CPV) - Pursuing family business, through many ups and downs, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa at 73 Hang Than, Hanoi, has preserved the tradition of making colourful paper folk masks for 30 years.

Masks representing folk characters like Uncle Teu or Thi No still have a strong meaning to his family’s life. |

Folk toys are made in accordance with traditional methods. |

The used newspapers are painted and pressed in the pattern to form the shape of products. |

Then the masks are covered with good paint to be made durable, with colour and decoration. |

The folk characters made by his family were taken to a Vietnamese cultural space on the street. |

Each year at mid-autumn, the colourful paper masks are used for actors and actresses to represent the folk characters |
