Situated alongside the Day river, Ung Hoa district, Hanoi preserves ancient and familiar characteristics typical of the northern countryside.

In Vien Noi commune there are a couple of dogs caved skillfully from blocks of stone weighing some 300 kilograms. Local authorities said that the ancient subjects’ architect and sculpture dated back to the Le dynasty.

The dogs are considered scarlet objects which prevent evil and misfortune from entering the commune.

The ancient banyan tree is a proud symbol for local residents.

The banyan tree has a root of nearly 40 metres tall and a body measuring the arms of 30 people. As it is planted on the side of the road, it becomes a place for local residents to rest on the way home from work.

According to local residents, the tree is over 700 years old.

The well used to provide clean water for the whole village.

To keep the well water clean, residents build stone embankments around the well but keep stairs to the well original.

Thousands-of-year-old pagodas and temples worship God and famous people who founded and protected the village.

Pagodas’ and temples’ yards are now a place for holding residents’ recreation and cultural activities.
