As the lunar New Year approaches, Buddha's hand fruits, or sarcodactylis, a specialty in Dac So commune, Hoai Duc district, Hanoi are being wrapped carefully to be delivered to customers across the country.
The fruits bring high economic returns to local residents from an area of just over 100 hectares of land in the commune. |
Ms Ha plants the fruit branches in 3 gardens, producing 300 trees. Each year, she can earn around VND1 billion from each garden. |
The fruits can be harvested twice a year; however, the planters earn most during the lunar New Year festival. According to the planters, gardens with good-looking fruits are produced for traders at a price of several hundreds of millions of VND each. |
According to Mr. Thach, to make trees blossom and produce in time for the Tet festival, each planter has his own experience. |
The trees are planted from their branches and it takes the trees between 2-3 years to fruit. Therefore, apart from mature gardens, planters extract branches to plant in other gardens. |
The fruits are wrapped carefully in soft paper and transported to many parts of the country. |
This group of 5 fruits are sold at VND500,000. |
