Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s activities in US

The first visit by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam to the United States took place 40 years after the end of the war, the liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification, 20 years after the establishment of Vietnam – US diplomatic relationship, in order to promote the bilateral cooperation and deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

On July 6th, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), Nguyen Phu Trong and the Vietnamese delegation arrived at Andrews military airport in Washington D.C. Staff from the Vietnamese Embassy in the US and representatives from the Vietnamese community in the US welcomed the Party General Secretary. |

The Party General Secretary on July 6th (local time) attended a ceremony to hand over the new-generation plane Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from the US Boeing Group to Vietnam Airlines (VNA) at Ronald Reagan Airport in Washington D.C. |

Thomas Jefferson is the third President of US, the primary drafter of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 in which President Ho Chi Minh quoted to start the Declaration of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on 2nd September 1945. |

Also on July 6th, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Trade Representative Michael Froman when he came to greet the Vietnamese leader. |

The US President stressed that the US attached special importance to its relations with Vietnam and Vietnam’s role in the Asian-Pacific region. |

He attended a banquet hosted by Vice President Joe Biden which was arranged immediately after the talks between Vietnamese Party leader and US President Barack Obama. |
