Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Politburo member and Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly, leaders from ministries and agencies,
and other audience members watch the play.
The play revives the image of revolutionary activist Phan Dang Luu and the public in the 1923-1940 period. The play helps imbue
the audience with patriotism, and recalls the great efforts and sacrifice of eminent cadres, Party members and the public in
the hard period of time of the Vietnamese revolutionary.
Witnessing with his own eyes the people’s miserable lives, Phan Dang Luu decided to quit his job as an official
under the colonial authority to become a revolutionary activist.
The image of Phan Dang Luu, his comrades and the public appears truthfully, bringing emotion to the audience.
The stage and the use of artistic language in the play helps the image of the communist revolutionary activists
appear very close to the audience.
Being arrested and imprisoned by the enemy at the Buon Ma Thuot prison between 1929-1936, Phan Dang Luu and his
comrades proved themselves unyielding and faithful communists who devoted themselves to the revolution.
Upon being released, he continued to struggle in Hue city (1936-1939) and went to the southern region to prepare for the uprising.
Recognising the important role of Phan Dang Luu in the Vietnamese revolution at that time, French forces sought
every way to arrest him again.
The play ends with the southern region’s uprising happening in the seething atmosphere of the public. Phan Dang Luu, together
with many eminent revolutionary activists, were arrested and killed ahead of the breaking dawn of independence and freedom.
Different kinds of arts were presented in the play.
The play was performed for three days (January 7th-9th) at Hong Ha Theatre (No. 51 Duong Thanh street, Hanoi)
before being broadcast on national television (VTV).
