as the first General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).
In March, 1935, at the first National Party Congress in Macau, China, Le Hong Phong was elected as Party General Secretary.
At PCC meeting held in Shanghai, China in July, 1936, Ha Huy Tap was elected as Party General Secretary.
In March, 1938, PCC convened and elected Nguyen Van Cu Party General Secretary.
At the 8th PCC meeting in May, 1941, Truong Chinh was elected as Party General Secretary.
In December, 1976, at the 4th National Party Congress, Le Duan was elected as Party General Secretary.
In December, 1986, at the 6th National Party Congress, Nguyen Van Linh was elected as Party General Secretary.
In June, 1991, at the 7th National Party Congress, Do Muoi was elected as Party General Secretary.
At the 4th PCC meeting term VIII, Le Kha Phieu was elected as Party General Secretary.
In April, 2001, at the 9th National Party Congress, Nong Duc Manh was elected as Party General Secretary. He was
re-elected as Party General Secretary term X in 2006.
In January, 2011, at the 11th National Party Congress, Nguyen Phu Trong was elected as Party General Secretary.
