Northern mountainous town’s first strawberries improve farmers’ income

Over the past month, the net house growing strawberries on terraced fields of Vu Thi Van’s family in Ma Tra village, Sa Pa commune, Sa Pa district in the northern province of Lao Cai, has yielded its first harvest.

The 1.5 hectare field has produced ripe strawberries, which attract a lot of tourists.

Strawberries are planted with the application of high technology.
The strawberry is harvested after some 3 months of development.
Sold at VND150,000 per kilogram, each day, Ms Van can earn VND3 million from some 20 kilograms of strawberry. 
Fruits such as strawberries are very suitable with the temperate climate in Sa Pa.
Local residents and tourists buy strawberries from the field.
Using high technology, planting strawberry is a very promising way for economic development
and for improvement of farmers’ income in Sa Pa.  
Ms Van’s family expects to harvest 40-50 kilograms of strawberry daily during the main season, earning
tens of millions of VND each day. 
Strawberry fields are expected to be an attractive destination for tourists travelling to Sa Pa.
