The Direct Aid Program (DAP) by the Government of Australia has provided nearly VND200 million to build and upgrade the clean water supply system in Lo Lo Chai village, Lung Cu commune, Dong Van highland district, the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang.
Situated at the tip of Dong Van stone plateau, residents in Lung Cu commune often face shortages of water. In dry season, local residents have to carry on their shoulders each can of water brought from springs on the stone mountain.
The Government of Australia has funded 13 projects in mountainous communities in Ha Giang province, including one on building and repairing the water supply system in Lo Lo Chai village.
Since the beginning of this year, DAP has funded VND200 million, together with the Ha Giang provincial Centre for Mountain Development (CMD), to build a water tank with pump and pipe system to the village. The upgrade of the water supply has created an impetus for promoting socio-economic development in Dong Van district in general, especially remote Lung Cu commune, gradually boosting poverty reduction. The pipes, buried underground, bring water from the mountain to each family.
A majority of families in Lo Lo Chai village are living in poverty.
The tank, together with the pumping system, will help some 100 families with 450 residents have adequate water
supply for the 3-4 month dry season.
