Colourful Lunar New Year Festival in Moc Chau plateau

The vibrant scene and full of vitality of traditional New Year's Day among the Hmong ethnic group on Moc Chau plateau, Son La province, were shared by The Bored Panda.

When arriving to Vietnam at the end of the year, you can’t ignore Moc Chau plateau in Son La province - a destination which draws a great deal of interest.

Moc Chau is the largest and most beautiful plateau in the northern mountainous region, with a very pleasant monsoon climate. Moc Chau is famous for its many fascinating tourist attractions such as pine hill, five caves in On village, Dai Yem waterfall and Thai Hung waterfall. This is the main living area of the Thai and Mong ethnic groups.

For the Hmong ethnic group, the New Year begins on lunar December 1st. Activities to welcome the New Year will take place everywhere in a jubilant and excited atmosphere. Adults and children all wear new colourful clothes and engage in traditional games such as throwing a scare ball through the ring, and pan-pipe dancing.
