To improve the quality of life for over 30% of Khmer ethnic minority people, the southern province of Tra Vinh has effectively carried out programs and policies to help them advance the plantation and breeding sector for a more prosperous life.

So far the province has invested over VND1.1 trillion to build 199 infrastructure projects and nearly 15,000 houses for Khmer ethnic minority families; provided production and residential land for nearly 2,400 families; and created jobs for thousands of labourers.

Many families have changed rice production areas to grow other crops, including vegetables, peanuts, maize and grass for cows, gaining an income of VND50-80 million per season, 2-3 times higher than earlier.

The implementation of Party and State policies has helped Khmer ethnic minority people gain remarkable improvements. There remain currently 16,310 poor Khmer ethnic minority families, reflecting a poverty rate reduced by 21.13% compared to 2010.
