In late August, hundreds of farmers work hard on an aged tea farm in Nghia Hung commune, Chu Pah commune in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai, to harvest tea.
Bien Ho tea field is among the most long-aged farm in Gia Lai province. So far 351 hectares of tea and over 700 hectares of coffee have been developed on the farm by the Bien Ho Tea Company.
“The tea garden that I am standing on was planted in 1944 before I was born. My parents generation, my generation and my children all harvest tea,” said A Hom, 53 years old.
Different kinds of tea are planted on the farm. The Bien Ho Tea Company supports farmers with seedlings, fertilizer and pesticide, while it is responsible for consuming the products.
Ancient tea trees are increasingly uuncommon as they bring lower economic value. However, according to farmers, the ancient trees produce tea with a flavor that young plants cannot.
Tea is classified into kinds of different quality.
Farmers use hats with waterproof material in harvesting tea.
Ms Huong says in the main season, she and her husband can harvest 70 kilograms per day.
