(CPV) - Bac Bien village in Ngoc Thuy ward, Long Bien district, Hanoi, has been famous for its sweet star fruits, and time-honoured historical and cultural sites.
The village of sweet star fruits brings visitors a peaceful atmosphere.
It’s hard for visitors to forget the flavour of the famous star fruits.
The village’s specialty delivers the unique taste of fruits planted in Hanoi.
Alluvial soil from the Red and Duong rivers make the fruits much sweeter than those planted in other places in the Red River Delta.
There are two main kinds of star fruits in Bac Bien.
Many trees which are over 30 years old produce high quality fruits.
Dao Cong Minh, who has spent nearly 30 years producing star fruits, says the trees can produce fruits all the year round if they receive proper care. “On an area of 1,000 square meters, planters can earn VND40-50 million per year,” he adds.
According to Mr. Minh, gardeners sell some 20-50 kilograms per day, or up to 100 kilograms per day during festivals, at VND15,000-20,000 per kilogram.
The special thing is that the trees are cared for using biological probiotics made from soybeans.
Star fruits sold at streets.
Urbanization has limited fruit growing area, so it is necessary to preserve the fruit trees as a precious plant of Hanoi.
