The statue of King Ly Thai To, statue of King Le Thai To and the martyrs’ monument are significant destinations that tourists should not omit when visiting Hanoi.
Situated at Ly Thai To flower garden, the statue of King Ly Thai To was built in 2004 marking the 50th anniversary of the capital liberation (October 10th) and welcoming the 1,000 years of Thang Long – Hanoi.
The statue, made from copper, weighs 32 tons with the height of 10.1 metres.
In Vietnamese history, King Ly Thai To (974 – 1028) was one of the greatest Kings who initiated Thang Long Citadel and created the land of a thousand years of culture. In 1010, he moved the capital city of Dai Co Viet nation from Hoa Lu to Dai La (Thang Long – Hanoi now).
It has become a popular destination for domestic and foreign tourists.
Situated next to Sword Lake, the statue of King Le Thai To is the most ancient in Hanoi, which was built in 1894.
It is surrounded in a campus of trees.
The statue is made of copper and at some 1.2 metres high.
The construction is in harmony with the scenery around Sword Lake, becoming a cultural site and a cannot-be-omitted destination of visitors to Hanoi.
The monument in commemoration of martyrs honours the national resistance war in Hanoi in late 1946 early 1947.
Built in 1984, the construction represents three forces: armed forces, workers and intellectuals joining the national resistance war.
The words showing the forces’ determination to sacrifice themselves to protect the nation were quoted in a letter of Uncle Ho to armed forces in Hanoi in the early days of the national resistance war.
The construction shows the brave spirit and will of the Hanoi army and people in a special period of history.
