50 years of Vietnam-Canada: Friendship and effective cooperation

In the fifty years since the establishment of diplomatic relations (1973-2023), Vietnam and Canada have always maintained an effective cooperative relationship. In 2017, the two countries officially upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Partnership.

Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin welcomed Prime Minister Phan Van Khai on an official visit to Canada (June 27, 2005). This was the first official visit to Canada by the Prime Minister of Vietnam after the two countries established diplomatic relations.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on an official visit to Vietnam (Hanoi, November 8, 2017). During this visit, the two sides issued a statement establishing the framework of the Vietnam-Canada Comprehensive Partnership.
