Beauty of Mu Cang Chai terraced fields in flood season

After the heavy rains in early June, water floods the terraced fields in Mu Cang Chai, creating a splendid picture among the Northwestern mountains and forests.

The newly planted-terraced fields are green, interwoven with brown soil beds sparkling with water. Terraced fields are the perfect combination between the majesty of the mountains and forests and the beauty of creative labor, spanning many generations. 

It isn’t immense like rice fields in the alluvial plains, nor is it gorgeous, colorful and luxurious. The flood season on terraced fields brings a deep color, a wild look of the Northwestern mountains and forests. 

The terraced fields in the flood season change their color according to the time of day, moving visitors with the beauty of the "silk strips" running across the sky. 

There are times when the rays of sunlight reflect into the water, blending with the sunlight and the green color of young seedlings. Beautiful images of sunrise or sunset are silhouetted against the hillsides. 

In 2007, the terraced fields in three communes of La Pan Tan, De Xu Phinh and Che Cu Nha of Mu Cang Chai district were recognized by the State as national landscapes. In 2020, Mu Cang Chai terraced fields were ranked as a special national monument. Not only that, Mu Cang Chai was also voted in the top 10 most beautiful terraced fields in the world. 

In order to promote tourism as well as the beauty of terraced fields, every year Mu Cang Chai district organizes "flood season" tourism activities to attract a large number of tourists to the locality. 

Arriving in Mu Cang Chai this season, the terraced fields of Mam Xoi hill in Han Xung village, La Pan Tan commune, have become a symbol that attracts all tourists who set foot in this place. In addition, Mong Ngua hill, Ba Nha Bridge, Khau Pha field, Lim Mong village are also attractive places to enjoy the beauty of terraced fields. 

However, exploring the beauty of terraced fields in the flood season is very difficult due to the narrow roads and high slopes, so the optimal method of transportation is to rent a motorbike taxi to go sightseeing if visitors can’t ride motorbike skillfully in challenging terrain.
