For generations, the Van Kieu ethnic minority community in Chenh Venh Village (Huong Phung Commune, Huong Hoa District, Quang Tri Province) has voluntarily protected more than 676 hectares of natural forest in association with rational exploitation of forest resources to create sustainable livelihoods.

This community forest has been certified by the International Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for sustainable forest management for non-timber forest products and by the FSC for ecosystem services for carbon storage and sequestration. This is the first community-managed natural forest in Vietnam granted these certificates by an international organization.

The forest has many large and precious trees.
Chenh Venh village establishes 7 forest protection groups on a voluntary basis and without funding. Each group has 5 people.
Non-timber forest products (bamboo trees) are exploited, helping people have high incomes.
Many models of making straws, cups and souvenirs from bamboo are exploited by people in the community forest, bringing high economic efficiency.
The vast forests are protected by the people of Chenh Venh village, located along Ho Chi Minh Road.
Products made from bamboo are sold to tourists by local people.
