International visitors to Hoi An rise sharply

Among 4 million tourist arrivals to Hoi An city in the central coastal province of Quang Nam in 2023, foreign tourists numbered 3 million.
According to statistics, tourism in Hoi An City has recovered similarly to the period before the COVID-19 pandemic, in which international tourists accounted for more than 70%.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of the Hoi An People’s Committee said, thanks to removing entry and exit bottlenecks for international visitors (visa exemption policy and new e-visa issuance effective from August 15, 2023), the implementation of Resolution 82 of the Government has contributed to the gradually recovery of the tourism industry.
Accordingly, in 2023, Hoi An welcomed 4 million visitors, up 99.79% against last year, of which international visitors reached 3 million, up 327.63% against last year.
The total number of tickets for entrance to destinations reached more than 3.2 million, up 130.53%; including 2.6 million tickets bought by international visitors, up 304.58% year on year. The total number of overnight visitors reached more than 1.5 million, up 100.47% year on year, including 1.276 million international visitors.
The Republic of Korea is the leading market sending international tourists to Hoi An with 215,305 visitors (20.65%), Taiwan (China) with 137,754 visitors (13.21%), and Australia with 83,875 visitors (8.05%).
Visitors from England, France, Germany, and Spain also accounted for a high market share. In particular, visitor groups from Europe increased in the last months of the year. In 2023, Hoi An also recorded a rapid increase from nearby markets, belonging to the ASEAN bloc such as Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and especially Malaysian tourists ranking 5th among countries sending tourists to Hoi An.
In 2024, Hoi An strives to welcome 4.3 million tourists, including 3.2 international tourists. The entire tourism industry's revenue is expected to hit 4,538.6 billion VND, up 9.64% year on year.

Hoi An has also been praised by the Indian newspaper as "picturesque" and is the perfect destination for culture enthusiasts to freely explore.
