Traditional brocade weaving of Dao people

(CPV) - The brocade weaving of the Dao ethnic minority people is a long-standing traditional craft that is being preserved and promoted for its cultural value in Cam Con commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province.
The sight of Dao women diligently working at their brocade weaving looms is a familiar image in Cam Con commune.
All the brocade weaving tools are handcrafted and used for hand-weaving fabric.
The weaving work requires  skill and craftsmanship.
An artisan in Cam Cọn demonstrates the thread spinning process at the Folk Culture Festival "Golden Colors by the Nam Luong River" 2024, organized in Bao Yen district.
The embroidery and weaving work also creates very graceful images of the Dao women in Cam Cọn.
A completed brocade product rich in the traditional cultural identity of the Dao people.
The brocade embroidery products are displayed and sold at local markets.
To preserve and promote traditional values, embroidery and brocade sewing classes are regularly held in the area.
Agencies and units in Cam Con commune also actively participate in the launch of the "Traditional costume week of ethnic groups in Bao Yen district 2024," which includes brocade costumes.
According to Chairman of Cam Con Communal People’s Committee Ho Viet Hung, the practice of strawberry cultivation and silkworm breeding for silk production is currently emerging and developing locally. It is anticipated that this will become an abundant local resource for residents to use in weaving and producing high-value brocade fabrics.
