On December 25th, the preliminary round of the pageant contest of overseas Vietnamese in Japan and an art performance program themed Happy Christmas and Happy New Year was held by the overseas Vietnamese community in Kanagawa, Japan.
This competition had the participation of dozens of candidates from provinces across Japan. The contestants are aged between 16 and 26. They are living and studying or working in Japan. After the qualifying round, 22 contestants were chosen to enter the preliminary round.
Ms Tong Kim Giao, head of the organizing board of the contest, said the contest aims to improve the spiritual life and the solidarity among overseas Vietnamese in Japan.
“We want the future generations who had arrived Japan when they were small or were born in Japan to remember the origins of the nation of Vietnam. These people should be proud to be Vietnamese as well as appreciate the beauty of the traditional long dress. Additionally, we want to seek and stimulate musical talents in the overseas Vietnamese community in Japan,” Ms Giao said.
The jury, who are representatives of the overseas Vietnamese community in Japan and one Japanese businessman, chose the 15 contestants for the next round from the preliminary round.
The semi-finals and final round is scheduled to take place on January 28th, 2012. The organizing committee will award seven prizes to winning contestants. The first title will receive two round-trip airline tickets to Vietnam and other gifts from the organizing committee.
