The requiem was led by Venerable Thich Quang Dien.
Speaking at the requiem, Mr. Vu Huy Duong, Secretary General of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Ukraine, reviewed events taking place on the East Sea, especially the heroic fighting of naval soldiers on Gac Ma and Co Lin islands in 1988, and reminded overseas Vietnamese not to forget the sacrifice of revolutionary martyrs for the independence and sovereignty of the country.
He also called upon overseas Vietnamese to look towards the country, contributing to building a monument for Gac Ma soldiers to honour their merits and the tremendous sacrifices of the army and people of Vietnam in fighting to defend the sovereignty over the sea and islands on the East Sea.
Despite a cold rain, a lot of Vietnamese Buddhists and Ukrainian people still stood in line to offer incense, pray for Vietnamese heroic martyrs, pray for Vietnam's prosperity and the country of Ukraine to soon have peace, stability and development again.
In recent years, the overseas Vietnamese community in Ukraine has held many requiems for heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
The requiem expressed their gratitude to the heroic martyrs, the solidarity of the community towards the homeland and protest China’s illegal actions violating the sovereignty of Vietnam on the East Sea. It attracted the interest and support of public opinion and the local people and authorities./.
