The Khmer-Vietnamese Association in Cambodia celebrated the 36th anniversary of the Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20th) in the capital city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on November 17th.

Speaking at the ceremony, President of the Khmer - Vietnamese Association Chau Van Chi, and Counselor in charge of community affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong, highly appreciated the great contributions of the teachers in educating overseas Vietnamese children; encouraging them to overcome all difficulties to help their students understand and preserve the cultural traditions and history of the Vietnamese nation.
They emphasized that the teachers should actively help the children understand Khmer culture, customs and habits to quickly integrate into the local country to contribute to the development of Cambodia and Vietnam in the future.
Tan Tien, Samaky and Svay Park, three schools of the association, have about 500 students, who are overseas Vietnamese children in the capital Phnom Penh, with 12 teachers teaching Vietnamese and four teachers teaching Khmer language.
In addition, the association has also built primary schools in eight provinces and cities among the 25 provinces and cities of Cambodia, seeing about 3,000 students.
The curriculum is based on the combined curriculum of Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training and Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.
Particularly, the Vietnamese language program is universalized under the 12-grade education system of Vietnam.
In the coming time, the association plans to include these schools in Cambodia’s education system with the main language of Khmer./.
