Overseas Vietnamese in Laos offer incense to commemorate war invalids and martyrs

The Vietnamese Embassy in Laos and the Laos War Veterans' Association organized an incense offering ceremony to commemorate heroes and martyrs at the Laos-Vietnam Combative Alliance monument in Keun village, Thoulakhom district, Vientiane, on July 26th on the occasion of the 73rd War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27th).

Speaking at the event, Envoy Trinh Thi Tam emphasized that the ceremony is an opportunity for the Vietnamese community in Laos and the Lao people to commemorate and honour the Vietnamese and Lao heroes and martyrs, who are excellent sons of the two peoples sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the two countries of Vietnam and Laos.

This is also an opportunity for the people of the two countries to review the tradition of fighting shoulder-to-shoulder against the common enermy in the past, and working together to build and safeguard the two nations at present, she said.

According to Ms. Tam, in this area on January 23rd, 1946, 28 Vietnamese and Lao heroes from the Laos-Vietnam Coalition bravely sacrificed themselves in the fight to Phonehe fort in Keun village of Thoulakhom district.

This was a significant historical victory of the Laos-Vietnam Coalition from the early days of the revolution of national liberation of the two countries.

The Vietnamese diplomat emphasized that the people of the two countries are forever grateful for the martyrs sacrificed for the fight for national liberation, and for the solidarity and the great friendship between the two countries. The following generations of the two countries vow to promote the faithful and indomitable tradition of the previous generations, to together study and work to build Vietnam and Laos more strongly and constantly contributing to preserving and nurturing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries./.
