79th National Day of Vietnam celebrated in Indonesia

The Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia and Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held a ceremony in Jakarta on September 9 to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2).

According to the Vietnam News agency, Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong and Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, Vietnam's Permanent Representative to ASEAN, reviewed the historical milestones of the country, its development after 79 years of independence and national construction, as well as the significant achievements it has attained in various fields since the launch of the Doi Moi (renewal) process in the late 1980s. During this journey, joining ASEAN was a notable milestone, marking an important start in Vietnam's international integration process.

Ambassador Thong said over the years, Vietnam's economy has maintained an average growth rate of nearly 7% per year and adding that from a country with food shortages, it has become a major exporter of rice, coffee, and cashew nuts worldwide.

Vietnam has signed free trade agreements (FTAs) with major markets, including ASEAN, the US, the European Union (EU), China, Japan, India, the Republic of Korea, Australia, and New Zealand, he said.

Regarding bilateral relations with Indonesia, Ambassador Thong said that the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Indonesia founded by President Sukarno and President Ho Chi Minh, is an invaluable asset of the two nations. The two countries have expanded relations in all areas and have become strategic partners of each other. In 2025, the two nations will celebrate 80 years since their independence and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties, an important milestone in the relationship between the two countries.

For her part, Ambassador Huong highlighted that ASEAN is one of the main pillars of Vietnam's foreign policy. The solid development of ASEAN and the sustainable development of the ASEAN Community are common goals that Vietnam shares with other ASEAN member states, she added.

Mr. Prahoro Yulijanto Nutjahyo, Director General of the Human Resource Development Agency under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia, congratulated Vietnam on its achievements in various fields over the years, which have contributed to enhancing Vietnam's prestige in the international area.

He emphasized that the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Vietnam will benefit the people of both countries and contribute to common prosperity, peace, and stability in the region./.
