The People's Committees of Thanh Loc and Phu Cuong communes in Cai Lay District, Tien Giang Province, in coordination with the VK (Overseas Vietnamese) Group held a groundbreaking ceremony to build friendship bridge VK 283 on November 5.

According to Mr. Tra Huu Nguyen, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Loc Commune People's Committee, the VK 283 Bridge is 22 meters long and 3 meters wide, with a total construction cost of about 305 million VND. Of which, the VK Group sponsored 235 million VND. The remaining cost will be mobilized from the local people. The estimated time for construction of the bridge is about 40 days.
Mr. Nguyen said that during the construction process, the leaders of the two communes and local people will monitor and create favorable conditions for the construction unit to implement, ensuring the progress and quality of the project, in order to serve the long-term travel needs of the people.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen Thu, Deputy Head of VK Group, said that, established in 2004 by overseas Vietnamese from Canada, the US, France, Japan and Australia, VK Group aimed to build 10 bridges for the Mekong Delta region. After completing 10 bridges, the group realized that many people supported and participated in other rural bridge projects.
“So far, VK Group has built and put into operation 282 bridges, with a total length of more than 7,500 meters and a total value of about 44 billion VND in the Southern and Central provinces, especially the Southwest region. These projects have significantly contributed to improving traffic, and improving the lives and economic development of local people," she said.
With VK 283 Bridge, VK Group has built 25 rural traffic bridges in Tien Giang province./.
