ASEAN's identity and central role promoted in Vancouver

The ASEAN Committee in Vancouver, Canada held a ceremony to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (August 8, 1967 - August 8, 2024) at the Indonesian Consulate General in Vancouver on August 7.

In his opening speech, on behalf of the ASEAN Committee in Vancouver, Canada, Indonesian Consul General and rotating Chairman of the ASEAN Committee in Vancouver Hendra Halim said that the event is an opportunity to help international friends better understand the common aspirations and ambitions of the ASEAN region.

The common goal of the ASEAN Committee in Vancouver is to expand and deepen public knowledge and understanding of ASEAN through its activities. With the spirit of solidarity and response throughout the community, ASEAN has successfully built a strong and resilient community, connecting with partners around the world.

He also expressed his delight at the encouraging results of the ASEAN-Canada Dialogue in Ottawa in May.

A highlight of this program is the music program including songs and dances of ASEAN ethnic groups. On behalf of the ASEAN Committee in Vancouver, Vietnamese Consul General in Vancouver Phan Kieu Thu sang “The ASEAN Way” and “Shadow of k’nia tree” to promote Vietnamese music to international friends.

In an interview with OMNI News, the only channel in Canada broadcasting multi-ethnic programs, emphasizing the importance of ASEAN as a pillar of regional cooperation, Consul General Phan Kieu Thu said that the Vietnamese Consulate General in Vancouver has always participated in practical activities of the ASEAN Committee in Vancouver in recent times, contributing to building and developing ASEAN's cooperative relationship with Canada./.
