On September 10, the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee held a launching ceremony to support people affected by storm No. 3 and called on businesses, agencies, organizations, groups, individuals, people of all walks of life, overseas Vietnamese and international friends to support materially and spiritually, share the difficulties, losses and damages of the people.
Responding to the call of General Secretary and President To Lam, the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (SCOV) has made a plan and actively coordinated with Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to mobilize and receive donations and support from Vietnamese communities abroad.
From all over the world, overseas Vietnamese are constantly following the developments of the storm and floods and joining hands to organize fundraising campaigns to support people in affected areas.
"On these days, I or anyone else feels teary-eyed when witnessing the fierce and tragic scenes in the flood-hit areas in the northern localities," shared Dr. Tran Hai Linh, member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam – RoK Businessmen & Investment Association (VKBIA).
"In times of hardship and difficulty, we can witness the love of our nation and compatriots shining brighter and more deeply than ever," said Mr. Linh.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Phong, an overseas Vietnamese originally from Hanoi, living in Gwangju-Chonnam, Republic of Korea, continuously followed the news of the storm and flood through the media. The images of rescuers and militiamen who did not fear danger to help people in the northern provinces moved him.
"People in the Central region stay up all night to wrap “Chung” cakes and send them to the Northern region, I realized that the spirit of mutual love of the Vietnamese people is always present, even in the most difficult times," Mr. Viet shared.

As of September 20, 2024, the overseas Vietnamese community donated more than 31 billion VND.
In addition, organizations and individuals from many countries have also directly sent their donations to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee.
Up to now, many overseas Vietnamese are still continuing to contribute and support people in areas affected by the storm and floods to soon stabilize their lives.
Overseas Vietnamese everywhere have clearly demonstrated the spirit of solidarity and returning to the homeland in difficult times. Contributions, whether large or small, are a valuable source of encouragement, helping people in flood-affected areas overcome challenges and soon stabilize their lives.

Typhoon Yagi has caused severe damage to 20 provinces and cities, especially floods and landslides in the northern mountainous provinces. According to a quick report from the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as of 5pm on September 18, Typhoon Yagi and subsequent floods have killed 299 people and left34 missing, with an estimated total damage of over 60,700 billion VND./.
