Traditional textile products of ASEAN countries introduced in Netherlands

Spouse of Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Le Thi Hien Anh recently participated in an event to introduce textile products of the ASEAN Ladies Circle (ALC) in The Hague.

The event, hosted by the Malaysian Embassy in The Hague, aims to strengthen the solidarity of women in ASEAN and introduce traditional textile products of ASEAN countries.

The guests of honor were Mrs. Liselot Hoornweg, the spouse of the Dutch Foreign Minister, and Countess Van Zuylen van Nijevelt. The key speaker was Ms. Gillian Vogelsang – Eastwood, Director of the Textile Research Center in Leiden.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Le Thi Hien Anh, Chairwoman of the ALC group, expressed her gratitude and welcomed the initiative of Ms. Dato Nadzirah Osman, Malaysian Ambassador, to have a very meaningful and impressive event.

Ms. Gillian Vogelsang – Eastwood shared information about the Dutch textile industry, as well as introduced some products present for thousands of years and stories about her center's collections. Ms. Le Thi Hien Anh said that this is a great opportunity for international friends to admire and understand more about the history of the textile industry.

Expressing her honor to be invited to this event, the Spouse of the Dutch Foreign Minister shared many memories about Leiden city, the capital of the Dutch textile industry, where she was born and grew up. She emphasized the importance of connecting cultures, including the connection between ASEAN and Dutch cultures.

At the event, guests visited booths displaying textile products from five ASEAN countries in The Hague as well as enjoyed special dishes of ASEAN nations such as Vietnam’s spring rolls, Thailand’s crispy noodles, Indonesia’s Sawut, Malaysia’s chicken curry and the Philippine’s mango juice.

Coffee Morning is a monthly activity of the ALC group with rich and diverse topics organized by the embassies and drawing enthusiastic participation by members of ALC group. The activity is an opportunity to exchange and share among ASEAN members in The Hague, and contributes to promoting the ASEAN identity to friends and the international community in the host country as well./.
