The event was organized by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka in coordination with the Institute of Comprehensive Science, Kyushu University, and the Foreign Human Resources Supporting Organization in Japan.

The conference aims to promote the transfer of technology and knowledge on semiconductor manufacturing from Japan to Vietnam, supporting the development of professional capacity and research of high-quality human resources in Vietnam. It also provides job, internship and training opportunities for Vietnamese students and experts in Japan, contributing to improving professional qualifications and expanding career prospects in the field of electronic semiconductors; proposes and implements long-term cooperation plans in developing human resources and improving production and research capacity in the semiconductor industry in Vietnam.

In her opening speech at the conference, Consul General of Vietnam in Fukuoka Vu Chi Mai said that semiconductor is an important field in modern industry, a technological foundation for essential manufacturing industries from information technology, automobile manufacturing, healthcare to energy and communications. Innovation is a key factor to promote the strong development of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam, while enhancing international competitiveness.

To do this, Vietnam not only needs to develop advanced technologies, but also build an ecosystem to support innovation, from research and development to production and application. Cooperation between Vietnam and Japan will bring practical results when Japan has extensive experience and high technology in the semiconductor industry, and is willing to share knowledge and techniques with Vietnam.

Ms. Vu Chi Mai believed that the workshop will be an important step forward, opening up new directions and solutions for the strong development of Vietnam's semiconductor industry in the coming time.

Ms. Omagari Akie, Deputy Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture, said that in Kyushu and Fukuoka Prefecture, the semiconductor industry is thriving with about 1,000 companies involved in many aspects of semiconductor manufacturing. Fukuoka has about 400 of those companies, including companies involved in planning and design, materials, testing and many other fields.

To address the shortage of human resources in the semiconductor industry, Fukuoka Prefecture has pioneered in the country in opening the Fukuoka Semiconductor Retraining Center in August 2023 to strengthen human resources in the semiconductor industry in Kyushu and Japan, contributing to the development of a thriving semiconductor industry and other digital-related industries.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Fujishima Yasuyuki, Chairman of the Foreign Human Resources Supporting Organization in Japan (Huredee), outlined the process of formation and cooperation between Huredee and three Vietnamese universities (Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Transport and Communications, University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) in training high-quality human resources, including in the semiconductor field. During the two-day conference, scholars will discuss many challenges that HuRedee and its partners face in the semiconductor industry. Mr. Fujishima Yasuyuki expressed his hope that through open and constructive dialogues, the workshop can come to a conclusion on future cooperation activities.

In the framework of the conference, Kyushu University, the Foreign Human Resources Supporting Organization in Japan and Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the University of Transport and Communications, and the University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City signed a joint statement on "Vietnam - Japan cooperation in semiconductor human resource development"./.
