Vietnam Summer Camp is an annual event organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with ministries, branches and localities to create opportunities for the young overseas Vietnamese generation to learn about their roots and connect with their homeland.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Dong expressed his gratitude to the 120 delegates. Those are young people who didn’t hesitate to wake up at 3am to travel from Ninh Thuan to Ho Chi Minh City in time to attend the funeral of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; who offered flowers and incense at the Truong Son Martyrs' Cemetery, contributed meaningful gifts to express their gratitude to the Vietnamese Heroic Mothers in Quang Tri province, on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day; who together donated nearly 200 million VND to support disabled children, orphans and poor students who overcome difficulties.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Manh Dong, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that first of all, with the Summer Camp journey, the delegates had an opportunity to visit many famous landscapes and historical sites that represent the heroic traditions of the Vietnamese people. Young overseas Vietnamese have the right to be proud of that tradition, and then spread the spirit of patriotism and pride in being Vietnamese to your Vietnamese friends abroad as well as international friends.

“Secondly, you are the new future owners of the Vietnamese community abroad. We hope that you will always connect with each other, preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Vietnamese people. To do that, we need to maintain, preserve and be more enthusiastic in practicing Vietnamese language,” he said.

“Thirdly, the Summer Camp trip, in spite of being short, has created opportunities for people of the same Vietnamese blood living in different places around the world to meet and get to know each other. Therefore, let's continue to share and support each other when possible, towards building a united, strong overseas Vietnamese community and toward the homeland," he emphasized.

"I am truly grateful to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, especially the people in the organizing committee of the Vietnam Summer Camp 2024 for working hard to organize a complete journey. Participating in the Summer Camp, what I appreciate most is that friends from different countries came here to exchange with each other. We learned a lot after exchanging with them," shared Do Phuc Nguyen, an overseas Vietnamese from the US.

The Vietnam Summer Camp 2024 officially ended. A meaningful and emotional journey will never fade in the hearts of overseas Vietnamese youth. The program has connected young people living in different countries together through the culture, history, nature and people of Vietnam. Then, when they return to their host countries, with the youthful energy, ambition and aspiration of youth, they will definitely contribute their youth to building and developing the homeland./.
