The class aims to preserve and promote the mother tongue and cultural traditions among the overseas Vietnamese.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, who is on a working trip to RoK, said that Vietnamese language teaching should be replicated, not only among the Vietnamese community in the RoK, but also others worldwide.

Ms. Le Nguyen Minh Phuong, President of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in RoK, expressed her hope that by learning Vietnamese language, overseas Vietnamese children in RoK will not only speak the mother tongue but also understand more about culture, history, and traditions of Vietnam.

Nearly 300,000 Vietnamese people are living and working in the RoK, of whom 70,000 have got married to Koreans.

Over the past years, the association has organized many Vietnamese language classes for children of such multi-cultural families, along with contests for Vietnamese there in an effort to spread the love for the mother tongue./.
